Louise B. Ludecke's

Fabric & Other Arts

Louise's Bio

Louise Ludecke interest in Fabric Art and Craft began when she was a child growing up in Long Island.  Louise’s mother, Elizabeth Savin, taught her how to color and cut paper dolls, sew stuffed dolls and doll clothes. As she became a woman, wife, and mother her skills continued to evolve.  First she began to create beautiful clothes for herself and her two daughters. She would create trims and appliqué by experimenting with left over fabrics.  Soon, in order to supply the needs of a new house, she began to make draperies, curtains, pillows and quilts.

When The Ludeckes moved to Westchester County, New York; Louise joined The Newcomers Club and soon found herself teaching craft classes to an international group of women. Here she also studied the American Crewel style of embroidery. Not long after this experience Louise joined the Garden Club to study Flower arrangement. She began to teach and head The Jr. Garden Club, where 75+ kids won numerous New York State awards.   She continued to work with kids in The Girl Scouts teaching crafts and out door sports.  In time, she became Community Director where she helped set up “Mini-Universities” of learning for adult leaders in jewelry assemblage.

However, quilting is her passion.  In Westchester, Louise had an opportunity to work in a well-known fabric shop.  Here she had access to all forms of fabrics and quilts, which fostered her obsession.  By taking classes, reading books, and by trial and error Louise has refined and developed her own style.

Louise is a member of the Brandywine Quilters Guild, Calico Cutters, Village Squares, and the American Quilters Society.
